APPLE, BBC AND NINTENDO ALL MAJOR WINNERS AT INAUGRAL BRITISH TECHNOLOGY AWARDS
iPhone, iPlayer and Nintendo all heralded as "Best In Class"; Google Maps voted Britain’s most indispensable technology

Thursday 2nd October/...The nominations are in, the voting has been double and triple-checked and today leading magazine publisher Incisive Media can reveal the results of the inaugural British Technology Awards.

The Awards – which have been voted for online by the general public through www.britishtechnologyawards.com and by readers of Computeractive and Personal Computer World – have been created to offer a snapshot of the country’s digital lifestyle. Designed to provide a glimpse at the nation’s technological obsessions, the British Technology Awards have revealed the gadgets and gizmos we’ve most enjoyed over the last 12 months.

Top of our list of must-haves is the Apple iPhone. In the space of just over a year, this has become Britain’s favourite gadget, winning the Best Mobile Technology, Technological Innovation of the Year, Most Stylish Technology and overall Gadget of the Year categories. In addition iTunes – Apple’s online music store – won best Music Technology.

The BBC iPlayer – another recent arrival – scooped Best Home Entertainment Technology and Best Online Technology, beating the likes of Sky, Freeview, YouTube and Facebook.

Nintendo cemented a stellar year for its gaming consoles, bagging the Best Gaming Technology Award for the innovative Nintendo Wii, and Best Kids Technology for the Nintendo DS.

However, even the might of the iPhone and the iPlayer couldn’t compete with Google Maps in the most Most Indispensable Technology category. The popularity of the online service – which can be accessed through a range of home and mobile media – proves that despite the fact we’re in an island nation, we’re still not really sure where we’re going.

Other major winners included the ASUS EEE PC, which scooped the Business Technology of the Year Award and Amazon, which won Retailer of the Year. The Toyota Prius bagged the prestigious Greenest Technology of the Year Award.

“The first British Technology Awards have been a tremendous success,” says Dylan Armbrust, Group Publishing Director, Incisive Media. “We’ve got to the heart of the nation’s technological obsession, and identified what gadgets we love, covert and cherish. It’s been a brilliant year not just for all our winners – particularly Apple, the BBC and Nintendo – but technology as a whole. The way we live our lives is shifting all the time, and no-one can predict how technology will shape life in Britain over the coming years".

A full profile of the winners is published on 2nd October in Computeractive and Personal Computer World. Further information can be found at www.britishtechnologyawards.com.
